How to Prepare Kidari Shikpum Seimyeon Seollangtang Instant Noodles
Today we have the instant version of a traditional dish that’s actually a local dish of Seoul. Seollangtang, for those of you that are unfamiliar with this stunning dish is a type of soup, alternatively known as “ox bone soup”. You’ve probably guessed an ingredient or two that make up this dish, but I’ll fill you in with some of the other more interesting ones. Keep in mind, some of the ingredients might or might not make it into the dish, because there are some variations between styles.
The ingredients that are more or less guaranteed to be incorporated are: beef bones, slices of beef, salt, black pepper, red pepper, minced garlic, and / or chopped spring onions. Some of the more unusual ingredients that make that broth milky and next-level delicious are the addition of: head, trotters, knee cartilage, and even intestines to kick it up a notch or two! You might not have known this, but I’m a huge fan of organ meats for their interesting flavor and incredible nutritional profiles.
This makes me wonder, just how many of those ingredients truly went into making this instant version? Surely some sacrifices must have been made and I’m not talking about the ritual type! Either way, this relatively obscure company, Kidari Shikpum, that I’ve actually never heard of before, are attempting to recreate this traditional dish with their own, Seimyeon Seollangtang. It should make for an interesting review tomorrow since I’ve just switched back to reviewing instant noodles from a few months of Tom’s Farm Nuts. In the meantime, if you’ve picked up one of these at the supermarket and can’t figure out how to put it all together, here’s my breakdown of how to prepare these instant noodles from Kidari Shikpum!
Instructions
Step 1.) Partially open the lid and remove the 3 packets from inside
Step 2.) Add the noodles to the cup
Step 3.) Add the powdered soup packet
Step 4.) Add the dried flakes packet
Step 5.) Boil some water and fill the cup up to the fill line
Step 6.) Mix and Enjoy! (The cup says you can eat it right away, but I suggest waiting a bit!)
Final Thoughts
Seimyeon Seollangtang was a quick and painless cup of instant noodles to prepare today, despite having the noodles packaged separately. I love the fact that they didn’t overcomplicate things with addition steps! I’m looking forward to being back to reviewing ramen with this cup of noodles, so come back for the review tomorrow!
Have you ever eaten Seollangtang at a restaurant in South Korea? What was your experience like eating it? Let me know in the comments!
