Once again, we’ll be taking a look at another blast from the relatively recent past with Nongshim Fried Udon Instant Noodles. Since we’ve been making quite a few of these old school noodles recently, maybe we can figure out which ones should stay and which ones should go extinct? There are way too many classic noodles on the market and we finally need to do some ramen housekeeping. It’s more than overdue…

The judgement on Nongshim’s Fried Udon will have to wait, but what I can do right now is tell you a little bit about these instant noodles. I did a little ramen research and found out that these noodles were released in South Korea back in 1990. For some reason, a lot of the classic cups of noodles were released at that moment in time. This includes Paldo King Ttukkeong, which was the last cup / bowl of noodles that I did a review for, since it was the 30th anniversary edition. I wonder why there was such a ramen boom back in the 90’s here in Korea?

Nongshim’s Fried Udon is supposed to be an instant version of old fashioned Korean style udon, but I’m going to remain skeptical on this one. My only guesses are that it features some sort of udon-like flavored broth that includes soy sauce and “fried nuggets of fry” that act like little naval mines submerged in the aforementioned broth. That’s about all there is to describe in this cup of noodles, so let’s get to cooking some ramen!

Step 1.) Partially open the lid and remove the packet from inside

Step 2.) Add the powdered soup packet to the cup

Step 3.) Boil about 400ml (a little over 1 1/2 cups) of water and fill the cup up to the fill line

Step 4.) Close the lid and wait patiently for 4 minutes

Step 5.) Mix and Enjoy!

Another simple semi-classic cup of instant noodles made in the 90’s. I had no problem making these noodles, so I’m sure you won’t have any problems either. One soup packet and some boiling water is all you need to enjoy Nongshim’s Fried Udon Instant Noodles. It doesn’t get any easier than that!

Are there any other classic cups of noodles that you love? Do you like little chunks of fried somethings in your ramen noodles? Let me know in the comments!
