The “non-frying version” of instant jjajangmyeon, Nongshim’s Jjawang Geonmyeon is a fraction healthier than your standard jjajangmyeon. The savings you get in longevity and calories are found in the noodles. These noodles are special. Instead of being fried once before being gently tucked into their packaging, these noodles are mummified. I mean… dried for preservation. I assume this process removes the traces of oil that expand the calories and soon after, your waistline. At least, I sure hope so! Anyways, here’s how to prepare these “non-frying” noodles.

Step 1.) Open the package and remove the 3 packets found inside

Step 2.) Bring 600ml (just over 2 1/2 cups) of water to a boil

Step 3.) Add the noodles and dried flakes to the water and continue to boil for 5 minutes

Step 4.) Drain most of the water, leaving roughly 8 tablespoons of liquid

Step 5.) Add the powdered sauce packet and the liquid bokkeum jjajang packet to the noodles

Another rather complicated package of instant noodles to prepare. Hopefully it makes for one heck of a bowl of ramen! We’ll find out in the review tomorrow.

What do you think of all of these steps? Is it too much work or worth it all in the end? Let me know down in the comments.

You can check out the original fried noodle version of this package of instant ramen below. The unfried version doesn’t get exported as far as I understand.
