Samyang never ceases to surprise me with their outside of the box thinking when making instant noodles. Baek Sundae Bokkeum Myeon is a sundae (traditionally: blood sausage) inspired cup of noodles that consists of three main flavors / ingredients stated on the packaging: a salty and savory sauce, a “full” perilla leaf flavor, and black noodles. I’ve eaten more than enough blood sausage and other organ meats since coming to Korea, but I never once thought I would see them show up in a cup of ramen. It’s so incredibly insane to me that I’m starting to think that it just might turn into a cult classic from Samyang. If Samyang can bring the flavors that were mentioned on the package to life in an instant form, you better believe these noodles will fly off the shelves. They might do just that regardless! Clever packaging has fooled me plenty of times before, but I’m ready for it when a company makes claims of this magnitude. If you somehow have one of these new and exciting cups of noodles staring back at you at home, let’s get to work…
Step 1.) Partially open the lid and remove the two packets from inside
Step 2.) Boil some water and fill the cup up to the fill line
Step 3.) Close the lid and wait patiently for 3 minutes and 30 seconds
Step 4.) Poke holes in the triangles for draining
Step 5.) Drain the liquid from the cup
Step 6.) Add the liquid sauce packet
Step 7.) Add the perilla leaf oil packet
Step 8.) Mix and Enjoy!
So far, Samyang Baek Sundae Bokkeum Myeon isn’t the easiest cup of noodles to assemble. The few extra steps from the need to drain the liquid add some time to the cooking process. However, it’s all pretty straightforward and the steps were given in detail on the packaging. Samyang is typically good about being specific with their directions, which I love them for. Nobody likes to get frustrated with they’re ravenously hungry. That’s the worst!
Do people in your country still make blood sausage or consume lots of nutritious organ meats? Or, has the diet in your country skewed towards processed food items? Let me know in the comments! I can’t wait to hear back from you.
