Another addition to the Samyang instant noodle family today with Buldalk Bokkeum Myeon Cheese. These noodles just might be your new Mac ‘n Cheese substitute for when you’re feeling a bit stressed and need a tasty hit of something fiery, but cheesy, to let the troubles melt away. So, put those worries aside and let’s jump right into today’s review.

Flavor:

Strikingly similar to the taste of the Original Buldalk Bokkeum Myeon, these upgraded noodles are made better with cheese. Everyone loves cheese, even if they’re lactose intolerant. The mozzarella cheese powder gives this cup of ramen a uniquely spicy and sweet cheesy flavor, while allowing the original hot chicken flavor to still shine. You’ll still pay the price, doubly so, to be exact if you’re lactose intolerant for eating this cup of noodles, but it’ll all be worth it for that cheesy goodness.

Spiciness:

Taste can be deceiving… Coming in just under the Scoville count of the original hot chicken flavored ramen (~minus 1500 SHU), these noodles still pack a punch, but strangely seem much less spicy due to the addition of the mozzarella cheese powder. I have a hunch, but it must be the added base that cuts the spiciness of these noodles nearly in half, at least that’s what my mouth has to say about it.

Smell:

The smell given off by this cup of instant noodles is largely Buldalk, but with just an ever so slight hint of cheese. If I had to do a blind smell test, chances are I would mistake these for the original.

Texture:

I followed the directions to a T and ended up with noodles that were slightly al dente, which I prefer. I also didn’t end up with a gelatinous mass this time by making sure to fluff the noodles before adding in the sauce packets. I would highly suggest doing this every time you make a cup of any of the Samyang hot chicken flavored instant noodles. The little bit of extra attention goes a long way. Other than this, the noodles held up great and didn’t become too mushy.

Overall Impression:

I feel like I’ve said this before, but if you enjoy the taste of the original hot chicken flavored ramen from Samyang, then you’ll be pleased with the cheesy version of these noodles. Samyang’s Buldalk Bokkeum Myeon Cheese Instant Noodles still retain the bold, spicy flavor of the original, but with a slight mozzarella zest to complement. These noodles are still spicy, but much of this is offset by the cheese. If you’re into spicy ramen, love the taste of cheese, or are looking for fiery Mac ‘n Cheese substitute, your taste buds will be happy with this cup of instant noodles.
